Planters Nuts Recalled In 5 States Over Listeria Fears

Planters customers are being advised to discard or return impacted products.

Anyone who has some Planters nuts tucked away in their kitchen cabinet is going to want to read about how Hormel Foods, the company behind the iconic Planters brand, is voluntarily recalling two of its products after becoming aware of contamination concerns. The nuts were shipped out to stores in five different states before the issue was uncovered, and now Hormel Foods is asking for the public's help in getting those foods off consumer shelves.

Here's everything you need to know about the Planters nut recall, including which batches were impacted, what states are affected, and what you need to do if you have some of the potentially contaminated nuts at home.

Planters mixed nuts are being recalled over listeria concerns.

The voluntary recalled was initiated over concerns about possible listeria monocytogenes exposure. Listeria can cause a range of health concerns in people who are especially susceptible to infection from the organism, which includes those with certain preexisting health conditions and the especially young or old, according to a statement from the Food and Drug Administration. Symptoms of a listeria infection include:

  • Severe headache
  • High fever
  • Nausea, abdominal pain, and/or diarrhea
  • Stiffness.

People who purchased Planters Honey Roasted Peanuts and Planters Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts from a Georgia or South Carolina Dollar Tree or a Publix in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, or North Carolina should check their packages and look for the following information:

Planters Honey Roasted Peanuts

  • A best by date of April 11, 2025
  • UPC code 2900002097

Planters Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts

  • A best by date of April 5, 2026
  • PPC code 2900001621

If your nuts are among those being recalled, you can either discard them or return your products to the store where you bought them and ask to exchange them.

Which nuts are in the planters mixed nuts?

Planters mixed nuts contain: almonds, Brazil nuts, pecans, almonds, and peanuts. The roasted and salted varieties also contain salt.

The recall of Planters Deluxe Lightly Salted Mixed Nuts and Planters Honey Roasted Peanuts was announced on May 3, 2024. The FDA stated in the announcement that no illnesses had been reported as a result of the listeria concerns at the time the recall was announced. Hopefully things stay that way.
